I thought I would use the bus time to add to the blog. I can't remember exactly where I got too. On way to Fraser Island?
Having stopped over night in the YHA in Hervey Bay we were picked up early to head to the ferry to Fraser Island. The largest sand island in the world! We were booked onto a package deal with Cool dingo tours for two nights and three days! So we started straight away at 10 in the morning. Our transport for the long weekend was a big 4x4 bus. Our first stop at Lake Mackensie saw me go swimming in the huge picturesque fresh water lake. It was beautiful. ..and despite the rain. Yes rain in Australia it was so much fun. Volleyball with the group a good laugh. After lunch we headed on a rainforest walk and then back to our lodge accommodation. The Dingo bar provided good food, pool tables and cocktails. ..including the manly bootalicious one I spilt all over me!
Day Two saw us leave early travelling across the island. The journey destroyed my back as the roads which were named for example heart attack hill and roller coaster road as you can guess were bumpy. A drive up 75 mile beach (actually 60 miles!) Let us see Maheno shipwreck
Dingos and the coloured sand pinnacles. Once at the top of the beach a swim in the champagne pools despite the cold was great fun followed by a walk up to Indian Head. A great lookout. After an eventful drive back including digging the bus out of the sand and a walk down through a gorge we headed to base, where Regan managed to catch the news headlines and updated me that there had been some attack in some Arab country!
Our final day on fraser saw Ribble Valley rain! A drive to a huge sand dune esc thing took place. After a walk through the forest we reached a huge mass of sand with dunes and a lake and after tracking up to the lookout in the forest we couldn't see a thing with the rain! A bus journey back over the island and then a ferry back in the rain to Hervey bay completed the day. Fraser Island was brilliant.
Next we were going to Sydney via Brisbane. ..lots of travel. A McDonald's sleep, a Domino's, two skypes to Becky, two 3hr buses and a 12 hr train. ..yes 12 long hours! After a nice stop in Brisbane for half a day back in Brisbane and too much puvlic transport we arrived in Sydney!
